August 6-8, 8:30-11:30 AM - Spend three mornings learning about the college application process in this bootcamp created just for Mahtomedi High School (MHS) juniors. You will leave with a thorough understanding of the college application and financial aid process, what to expect, how/when to complete each step, and what resources are available for them at MHS. Led by College and Career Counselor Ellen Cole, you will also hear from college admission reps and work with English teachers on your essays. Take away a personalized list of potential colleges including reach, match, and “safety” schools, a completed Common Application, a college essay draft, and a completed resume for use when requesting letters of recommendation, scholarship apps, etc.
• Day 1 - Overview of College Application Process; intro to MCIS and other research tools; creation of college list; discussion of essay (homework to continue researching colleges and think of topics/discuss with family)
• Day 2 - Essay writing in small groups with guidance by English teachers; discuss college list; resume/brag sheet building
• Day 3 - Common application; financial aid and scholarship presentation--parents invited
Maximum 20 participants.
If necessary, an afternoon session may be added.
