What is Community Education?
![]() Community Education in Mahtomedi can be summed up in three words: link, learn and lead. Through lifelong learning opportunities and community events, Community Education serves residents of all ages – infants, school-age children, parents, adults, seniors. Link – Community Education helps community members connect with one another through classes, activities and events. It actively seeks and engages in productive community collaborations and links residents to the school district, especially those who don’t have children in Mahtomedi Public Schools. Learn – Community Education offers affordable programs and services embracing growth and change through positive, continuous improvement. These opportunities provide welcome ways to gather with friends and neighbors around areas of mutual interest. No matter your age or abilities, new learning opportunities provide a powerful venue for discovery in our own backyard. Lead – Community Education helps take the lead by serving as a source for developing a healthy community. This is accomplished by working with key stakeholders, including governmental agencies, civic groups, non-profit entities and others, on specific projects. Community Education also takes the lead by managing a financially stable department that provides the added benefit of helping support the district’s General Fund (which finances K-12 education). The latest offering, events and activities are listed in the tri-annual community education brochure, which is mailed to all district residents, and in the tri-annual SCOOP, geared to adults and seniors, and on the community education registration website. |
